On the 29th June 2022, the Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Act 2022 was passed.
It covers 4 key areas, many of which have NOT been implemented. At present, there is no clear timetable for their implementation as additional work and consultation with stakeholders has to occur. Below is a summary of the key points of the legislation and the planned implementations dates (where applicable): –
Fireworks licensing – Requirement to hold a license to possess or use a firework.
- No defined implementation date as yet. Likely 2024/2025 at earliest.
Firework control zones – Restrict the use of fireworks within a designated area.
- No defined implementation date as yet. Likely 2023/2024 at earliest.
Restrictions on supply and use of fireworks and pyrotechnic articles.
- Prohibition on supply to children – Will come into effect on 10th October 2022.
